MIA Wears Niqab on Red Carpet

MIA wore a colorful "overgarment" with the words "I love you" on the bottom, heels and a niqab on the red carpet at the Scream Awards. Many say that she may have worn the outfit because of the recent ban on burqa/niqab in France.

***there is also a photo of her flipping the bird on the red carpet which we won't post**

What do you think of this? Do you find it offensive? Do you think she was taking a standing and saying niqab is beautiful? Could there be any benefit for Muslimahs from this? Were do you stand?

  2. You'll have to excuse me but what does 'flipping the bird' mean?
Otherwise my opinion, I'm loving it and it brings it to the forefront of the public and media to open up from their fears of it.

  4. I love it. :) I even think that the abaya and niqab lok kinda good, but it's not something I would wear myself. :) But somehow, it works on her.

  5. I love it. Intriguingly and Islamically ostentatious. I think the highheals out the s in sexy. Its constructive moreover constructive than offensive for Islam. Islam is truth created to infuse all sectors of society til they say la ilalha illallah, til world is a mosque in accordance with the sunnah. Whether if its literature, science, politics, popular culture of the society Islam will effectively and supremely infuse it. Inshallah. Mya, highheals sexy as hell. Myashe on fire. Thanks for the pic Muslimahs. Assalamu Alaikum

  6. As a muslimah, no I don't find it offensive, the way we do things may offend and bother other people but I think she did it 2 make a statement. Everyone shows up on the red carpet with the most expensive, sometimes most revealing things so I see it as something that should be seen on the red carpet.

  7. I think it is pretty weird. I am not surei f she is making a fashion statement, political statement or just wants more to talk about her. I didn't thing her outfit fits Muslimah standards. But i think it may make people want to find out about what she has on and why. Maybe people will research Islam and want to be Muslim...But still pretty weird

  8. i think that the outfit is cute but tooo loud for me. but the fact that she wore niqab is commendable. inshaAllah it will break down some of the walls and misconceptions that far too many people have about niqaabi. maybe it will make non-muslims realiza that we are more than faceless, voiceless, oppressed women to be pitied. maybe they will finally understand that 99.9% of all niqaabis do it my choice and not by compulsion.

  10. She definately did it to make a statement. MIA is known for her politically charged songs and that rather than music for intertainment is her mission.

  11. Flipping the bird didn't do her statement many favors. Other then that I think it's great that the niqab was seen outside of creepy news reports against hijab.

  12. non issue. I dont see it as a positive thing but i dont see it as negative either. What i want to know is - did she say why she was wearing it? Was it to protest the niqaab ban or was smtg else? either way, more power to MIA for wearing the niqaab out on the red carpet!

  13. the niqaab is supposed to be a cover for a women...to hide her beauty, how can we say this outfit is a good thing and at the same time she looks "sexy"????!! we shouldnt have to compromise just say people look at the niqaab in a positive manner...there are many other ways to do this...but by making a niqaab a sexy fashion outfit is not something i agree with

  15. I don't like the color nor the style, but it was cool that she wore it out in public, i hav no clue as to the reason, and shocked that someone in the music industry would wear one, and too much color is goin on.

P.S. i am not hatin either

  16. Flipping a finger does give a statement. It says I don't give a fuck what you want or what you think about me. The colors are from her single "xxxo". But this has nothing to do with the song. She also has a song called "lovealot", but you can hear her say "I Really Love Allah". It's a song about that russian girl who killed herself. She's not singing it's okay to kill yourself, she's just singing about the person behind what we see in the media.

She, just as alot of muslim people has been called a terrorist just because she's political and most of all because she's Tamil.
She talkes alot about muslims also:) She just want the west to realize that we share this world with ALOT of different people

  17. I use to love M.I.A until i saw this. because as a muslimah its hard standing up for our rights and what we believe in and obey allah with his commands in regards to our dress. People shouldnt take niqab or our abayas as a joke. Im proud of my clothes and beliefs but i dont appriciate her flipping her middle finger in niqab. if she would of just wore the outfit minus the middle finger i would of liked it..but as muslim women we've come along ways in getting people to respect us and our clothes that we wear..
