MIA Wears Niqab on Red Carpet

MIA wore a colorful "overgarment" with the words "I love you" on the bottom, heels and a niqab on the red carpet at the Scream Awards. Many say that she may have worn the outfit because of the recent ban on burqa/niqab in France.

What do you think of this? Do you find it offensive? Do you think she was taking a standing and saying niqab is beautiful? Could there be any benefit for Muslimahs from this? Were do you stand?

Rock It or Stop It: Niqab with Shades/Sunglasses

Alhamdulilah wearing niqab is beautiful and can truly be a test during the summer especially with the sizzling  temperatures.   On top of that the sun is out in full effect and can be a serious force to be reckoned with.  It's not often that you see sisters rocking their shades when they wear niqab. So the question is should you wear shades/sunglasses with niqab?

Rock It or Stop It: One Eye Niqab

There are many Muslimahs who wear hijab and niqab. Niqabs come in a variety of designs such as: ones with strings in the middle, multiple layers and sheer covers over the eyes. What about a niqab that also covers one eye?


O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks(veils) all over their bodies(i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is the Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Quran 33:59)

Niqabi Recessionista: Online Stores

Even though I am now a niqabi I still like to wear a variety of colors and styles. My personal fav is a full one layer tie niqab. However there are other types like a half niqab, long, three layer, four layer, one eye and even eating niqabs. Below are a few niqabs from some of my favorite online stores.

Niqab Day March 8th 2010

After the ban of hijab in public schools, the road of Islamophobia goes through the ban on burqa. The next station can be any topic like a ban on Ramadan fasting in public schools for health security reasons, but once again health will not be the true reason.



"Why do Muslim women cover their heads?" This question is one which is asked by Muslim and non-Muslim alike. For many women it is the truest test of being a Muslim. The answer to the question is very simple - Muslim women observe hijab and niqab (covering the head and the body) because Allah has told them to do so.



"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..."



Other secondary reasons include the requirement for modesty in both men and women. Both will then be evaluated for intelligence and skills instead of looks and sexuality. "We want to stop men from treating us like sex objects, as they have always done.We want them to ignore our appearance and to be attentive to our personalities and mind. We want them to take us seriously and treat us as equals and not just chase us around for our bodies and physical looks."

A Muslim woman who covers herself is making a statement about her identity. Anyone who sees her will know that she is a Muslim and has a good moral character. Muslim women who cover are filled with dignity and self esteem; they are pleased to be identified as a Muslim woman. As a chaste, modest, pure woman, she does not want her sexuality to enter into interactions with men in the smallest degree. A woman who covers herself is concealing her sexuality but allowing her femininity to be brought out.

The idea behind this is to support Muslimahs everywhere who want to be able to practice our religion freely. With the controversy over banning niqab/hijab in countries like Canada and France this issue is very important. We even have other Muslims who are fighting for the ban of niqab!!! What will it be next? Hijab, so that we can assimilate even further into other societies? Or maybe over garments, because they are too extreme?



Were not saying that you have to wear niqab for one day to show your support. If you don't wear niqab alhamdulilah, if you do wear niqab alhamdulilah. The point is, we should be able to practice our religion how ever we see fit. We encourage you to get involved in this issue. Do your research and see what you can do to help your fellow Muslimahs.

Toronto (AP) - A Canadian Muslim organization urged the Canadian government Thursday to ban traditional Muslim garments designed to cover a woman's face, saying they are medieval and misogynist symbols of extremism with no basis in Islam.

To Niqab or Not to Niqab......that is the question

I have recently been thinking a lot about wearing niqab. I have worn niqab a few times here and there in the past but I have never made a commitment to it. The times when I did where niqab I have always felt very comfortable and at peace. I think niqab is absolutely beautiful and have a lot of respect for women who choose to wear niqab for the sake of Allah. May Allah reward them- ameen.

I don't personally think that NIQAB is fard(obligatory) but what I do know is that we should try to do things that the prophet(s.a.w.) and the companions did. Following this logic it only makes sense that we should want to do what the Ummul Mu’mineen, the wives of the prophets did. We can see examples of them observing niqab in the following hadiths.

Narrated by Aisha (RA) who said, "The riders would pass us while we were with the Messenger of Allah ). When they got close to us, we would draw our outer cloak from our heads over our faces. When they passed by, we would uncover our faces." (Hadith-Abu Dawud)

Narrated by Aisha(RA)"When (the Verse): 'They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms,' was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces." (Hadith-Al-Bukhari)

I do wonder how I will navigate in my day to day life i.e. work, shopping, eating out, etc. For now I'm still doing my personal searching to see what my decision will be.
